NPPA Mentoring Student
Congratulations to Emily Arkfeld for receiving the 2008-09 DeBenedetti Memorial Scholarship from the National Meat Association (NMA) Scholarship Foundation. The $2,500 award is given annually to an applicant with the highest qualifying composite score in the evaluation process. In addition, the Foundation awarded Emily a $500 travel award for attendance to the 63rd Annual Convention/MeatXPO of the NMA, to be held in Las Vegas, February 22-25, 2009, where her scholarship will be recognized.

Kayla Rubenthaler, a sophomore Animal Science major has been recognized for her outstanding scholarly achievements in 2007-08 by the Nebraska Chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta, the Honor Society of Agriculture.

National Junior Swine Association Scholarship

Emily Arkfeld, a freshman Animal Science major, is one of the recipients of a 2007 National Junior Swine Association Senior Outstanding Member Scholarship. Scholarship categories were novice winner ($200), junior division winner ($300), intermediate winner ($500) and two senior winners ($1,000). Scholarship recipients were announced and pictured in an article, “Rising Stars,” in the February/March 2008 issue of the Seedstock Edge magazine.

Emily Arkfeld was also selected as the National FFA Proficiency Award winner in 2007 in swine production entrepreneurship.

"Outstanding Woman Scientist"

Emily Tschida and three other Animal science majors have been nominated by the College of Agricultural Science and Natural Resource's (CASNR) Dean's Office for recognition as an "Outstanding Woman Scientist" at the February Forum.
